Abbey Elgar has been in the insurance industry for 16 years, landing her in her current role as an Account Executive at ‘Your Insurance Broker’ based on the Sunshine Coast. She manages all aspects of commercial insurance, specialising in Motor Trades, SME, Liability, complex risks and claims. Here Abbey shares some of her insights into the industry.

Abbey Elgar of 'Your Insurance Broker'

What are the key challenges and opportunities in the insurance broking industry over the next couple of years?

I’ll start with the current market withdrawals. This is creating very limited options for consumers in key industries. Following this I see the changing risk environment, we are likely to see a further increase in CAT events, Cybercrime and the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on business and the economy Regulatory changes are set to have a huge impact on the industry.

As for the opportunities, the difficulties in the industry in recent times and into the future have allowed brokers the opportunity to really prove their worth. Now is the time to cement client relationships by working closely with them through the difficult times and restoring the perceived role of brokers from ‘policy sellers’ to trusted advisors. Smart systems, collaboration of insurers with passionate, experienced, and dedicated brokers, are the way to drive the industry into the future and achieve the best outcomes for all.

Where do you see Legal Expenses Insurance (LEI) sitting in the suite of products offered to your clients?

I see LEI as a key cover for the SME market, by being there to aid businesses in establishing good practices through the document centre and providing comfort through the legal advice helpline, it is more than just a product that responds after a loss.
The benefits of LEI include the proactive and reactive nature of the product, along with the additional benefit of the document centre are the features that make the ARAG LEI product stand out.

Do you have one tip for selling LEI to your clients?

For new businesses starting out, or for established businesses that are struggling with implementing policies and procedures, the document centre is so unique and practical that I always focus on the value and peace of mind the product can offer your business now, not just in the event of a claim.

We’d like to thank Abbey for taking the time out of her day to offer us her insights and tips into the insurance industry and legal expense insurance.
